Sometimes you always have jobs where suppliers come around with so called
standard outboard equipment. And of course its possible to work with it,
but if this the objective ...
What's the use of the greatest line arrays, super consoles and hyper microphones,
if compressor XYZ demolishes the bass sounds, for example? Its time to
change the view! Especially on big events, I simply place the SPL gear
because I want to rely on fast, uncomplicated and unobtrusive operation
(and the guys who write the stage riders can't know everything, so most
times they appreciate a good tip).
SPL gear is always on top of my equipment list and I'd rather do
without dynamics than allowing any poor unit to bend a signal."
